Get to Know Tuesday: Edgardo Obregon

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team brings back 16 returners and adds 10 newcomers to the 2020-21 squad. Throughout the offseason, we will be getting to know an Owl each week leading up to the first spring game. Edgardo Obregon is the next student-athlete we will get to know this week.

Obregon played his first season for the Owls last year, appearing in all 16 matches. The midfielder tallied a goal and assist for three points and took 12 shots on the year. Obregon started in seven matches during the 2019 season, accumulating 651 minutes.

Q: Describe your first season with the Owls in one word.
A: Memorable

Q: What was your favorite memory from last year?
A: Getting to score against UCF in Orlando when they were ranked [No. 11] in the country was a nice experience. Our home opener vs. James Madison is also a great memory.

Q: Why did you decide to transfer to FAU?
A: I wanted to play at the highest collegiate level. I was not eligible to play NCAA my freshman year.

Q: What are your biggest goals this season?
A: Recover from an LCL surgery and come back stronger than ever. History is still to be made for this program.

Q: When did you start playing soccer? Did you play other sports as well?
A: I've played soccer since the age of three. At a really young age, I was recruited to play for Club America (Mexico). I played there a long time. I also had the opportunity to represent Mexico in six different games. I used to play ping pong with my teammates, but that is about it.

Q: What is a movie you could watch over and over again?
A: Run the Race [because] it reminds me of myself a lot.

Q: What is your spirit animal?
A: My spirit animal would be a lion.
