Get to Know Tuesday: Daniel Skistad

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team brings back 17 returners and adds 10 newcomers to the 2020-21 squad. Throughout the offseason, we will be getting to know an Owl each week leading up to the first spring game. This week, we have the opportunity to get to know defender Daniel Skistad.

The Drammen, Norway product just finished his second year in an Owl uniform. Skistad helped hold it down on the backline during the 2019 season, starting in all of the 15 games he appeared in. He tallied the fifth most minutes on the team, while playing five matches in full, as well as taking four shots on the year.

Q: What was your favorite memory from last season?
A: [My favorite memory was] definitely the overtime win over ODU, which sent us to the Conference [USA] Tournament. The scenes after we won with the crowd, sudden rain and celebrations was taken straight out of a movie scene.

Q: Why did you choose to come to the states and play collegiate soccer?
A: I wanted to have school and soccer at the same place, and I wanted to try something new. I also liked the idea of having top facilities and fields to play on.

Q: What are the biggest differences of playing soccer in the states versus Europe?
A: I would say it is more physical here, and some of the rules are quite different. For example, both the way subs are done and the way the clock works are very strange for a European.

Q: What are your biggest goals going into the season?
A: I want to go further than we did last year.

Q: What is your major? Why did you choose it and what do you want to do with it?
A: I'm doing a double major in International business and business management: leadership. I'm not 100 percent sure what I want to do in life yet, so I felt business would give me a solid and broad education and would keep my options open.

Q: Did you play other sports besides soccer? How did soccer stick with you?
A: I've never actually played any other sport on a team, but I played a lot of different ones throughout either school or with friends.

Q: What is your favorite Norwegian dish?
A: The Norwegian salmon is really good, but my favorite has to be the Norwegian meatballs.

Q: Describe living in Paradise in three words.
A: Hotter than Norway
