BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team will play two road games this week, going to Charlotte to play the 49ers on Thursday night, then matching up against Old Dominion in Norfolk on Saturday night.
Last Week: The Owls (12-6, 4-2 Conference USA) had a pair of close games last week. FAU rallied from 11 points down to Middle Tennessee with less than four minutes to play, capped off by
Jailyn Ingram's game-tying 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left to force overtime. The Owls had to rally once again in the extra session, eventually defeating the Blue Raiders 97-94. On Saturday, FAU came up just short to UAB 68-65 despite 19 second half points from
Cornelius Taylor.
About Charlotte: The 49ers (10-7, 4-2) won their first four conference games, but have since lost two in a row. Junior guard Jordan Shepherd leads Charlotte at 14.3 points per game, while four-time C-USA Freshman of the Week Jahmir Young is second on the team at 11.7. Graduate guard Drew Edwards rounds out the double figure scorers at 10.4 points per outing.
About Old Dominion: The Monarchs (7-12, 3-3) defeated Charlotte 66-62 on Monday afternoon. Jason Wade had 23 points in the victory. Wade is ODU's second leading scorer, at 11.4 points. Junior guard Xavier Green leads the team at 12.3 points. Malik Curry (10.5) and A.J. Oliver II (10.2) give ODU four players who average at least 10 points.
History: Charlotte defeated FAU 65-60 last season in Boca Raton to take a 4-3 lead in the all-time series.
FAU trails Old Dominion 7-2 despite an 80-73 win over the Monarchs last year.
