– The Florida Atlantic University women's track and field team is geared up for Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Houston. The meet will mark the second meet of the season, set to commence tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Yeoman Fieldhouse. FAU is looking to build upon a successful opening at the UAB Blazer and Vulcan Invitational last weekend.

FAU opened up the 2020 indoor season at the Blazer and Vulcan invites hosted by UAB. At the Blazer Invite,
Anne-Catherine Wasser broke a school record in the 600-meter run with her 1:34.76 finish, which also helped her tally first in the event. The Owls swept in the 5000-meter run, as
Lauren Macon crossed the line first (19:02.91),
Morgan Sharp took second (19:14.69) and
Alexis Hill rounded out in third (19:51.89).
Lyric Schmalz advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles to rack up fourth place (8.71), marking the third fastest time in the event in school history.
Madlen Kappeler had a successful first indoor race by taking fourth in the 3000-meter, which was the ninth fastest time in program history (10:15.98). In the triple jump,
Cara Simpson documented a seventh place showing with 11.61m, which is the third best feat in school history.

At the Vulcan Invitational, the 4x400 relay team of Schmalz,
Searra Woods,
Roshelle Francois and Wasser logged in second place with a time of 3:55.94. Also on Saturday,
Brooke Butterfield punched in third place in the 800-meter run, while Wasser captured fourth in the 200-meter dash. Schmalz advanced to the 60-meter hurdle finals for the second straight time, claiming eighth with a time of 9.24 to finish out the weekend.

Following a week off, the Owls will head to Boston to compete at the Harvard White & Crimson Invitational on Friday, Jan. 31 and the Bruce Lehane Memorial Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 1.
