TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Opening up the spring season, the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team split a doubleheader at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Friday, earning a 4-0 shutout against Florida A&M before falling to Florida State in the nightcap.

Notables:

Against the Rattlers (0-2), the Owls gained the doubles point with victories by the No. 1 team of Maxime Lapraille and Alvaro Fernandez Horta, 6-2, and the No. 2 combination of Filip Krolo and Hunter Robbins, 6-4
Krolo notched the first on-court singles point, with a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3
The clincher came courtesy of No. 5 Thomas Guy, by a 6-4, 6-1 score
Lapraille at No. 1 and Gerard Escandell at No. 2 were both leading in the second set, after each having won the first, when the decision was rendered
In the finale against FSU (1-0), taking their first singles set out to tiebreakers were Escandell and Yovan Lambros, but the Seminoles came away with the win

Assistant Coach Matthew Lasprilla:
"The first match against FAMU, the guys all were in control of their matches. We did a good job of taking care of business.

"Overall, (head coach) Ricardo (Gonzalez) and I were not very happy with tonight's performance (against Florida State). We were very flat and lacked energy as a team. Against a team like FSU, it simply won't get the job done. We have a lot to improve on."
