The Florida Atlantic University football team met and had a walk-through on Tuesday due to weather. The Owls then returned to the Tom Oxley Practice fields on Wednesday and returned to a normal practice schedule.
Practice Notables
Team drills on Wednesday were won by a opportunistic defense
Quarterback Chris Robison, a redshirt sophomore, began one of the team sessions by finding running back James Charles, a redshirt junior. Charles caught the pass and tip-toed down the sideline for a 10-plus-yard gain
The defense was then credited with back-to-back sacks
Linebacker Akileis Leroy later recovered a fumble in the end zone
During the two-minute drill, cornerback Meiko Dotson, a redshirt junior, made a perfect read for an INT
La'Darius Henry Position: Defensive Back Hometown: Adel, Ga. High School: Gibbs High School (Fla.) Major: Undecided Why I Chose FAU: "Being committed to West Virginia, I never thought that I would end up at FAU. The first day of my senior year, I tore my ACL and a lot of schools pulled my scholarship options, including West Virginia. So, I really didn't have a lot of options. I decided it was best for me and my family to stay close to home and go to FAU. I'm happy here and can't wait for a long FAU journey."
Post Practice with Australian Newcomer
Matt Hayball
"Everyone has made me feel really welcome, beyond the specialists in particular. They have really helped me settle in. Class started the other day. That is going really well. I'm just loving everything at the moment. It's great."
Are you part of the Australian Program working with the guys who help get kickers to American?
"I was. That is Nathan Chapman and John Smith at ProKick Australia. I think there is close to maybe 50 or 60 playing Division I at the moment. So they do a fantastic job in preparing us to come over and talking us through some challenges we may face, working us through all that. They do a great job and there is a lot over here at the moment."
What made you want to come to FAU?
"The coaching staff had a lot to do with it. Coach Kiffin has a great reputation as you would know. He is a fantastic coach and Coach (Jaron) Fairmon (is) as well. He was fantastic through the whole process. And then, of course the location and all those things come into it as well. I couldn't ask for a better place to end up."
