Owls' Weekend in Review
The Owls (34-17) completed a seven-game road trip, spanning the last 10 days away from Boca Raton, by winning two of three in San Antonio over UTSA. That makes for two straight series wins on the road in league play, and vaulted FAU to a first-place tie atop the Conference USA standings (and, the Owls hold the tiebreaker over Southern Miss). Over the seven road games,
Andru Summerall produced 17 RBI and now has a team-high 49 on the season, sixth in the league.
Wilfredo Alvarez batted .520 on the trip, 13-for-25, and leads the squad on the year at .330.
Owls' Midweek in Preview
UCF (31-19) had a bye weekend, and haven't played since last Wednesday when they knocked off Miami, 8-7. In fact, the Knights are 13-1 in midweek matchups, with the only loss coming against FAU earlier this year in Orlando. Tyler Osik paces the team with a .337 average and has nine home runs and 37 RBI, second in both categories to teammate Dallas Beaver (10 and 44, respectively).
Midweek Probable Starting Pitching Matchup
FAU –
Ryan Sandberg, R-So. RHP (0-2, 5.48) vs. UCF – Chris Williams, R-Sr. RHP (6-4, 5.08)
Opponent History
Again, the Owls topped the Knights a few weeks back, 5-3 on April 16. UCF took an early 2-0 lead, but a four-run sixth gave the visitors an advantage they wouldn't relinquish. That draws FAU to within eight in the all-time series, 43-35, and gives them an 11-7 advantage in the Coach McCormack era (and seven wins in the last nine outings).
