Women's Basketball Adds Three to 2019-20 Roster

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team has announced the addition of Nikola Ozola, Janeta Rozentale and Sofia Galeron to the 2019-20 roster. Ozola will join the Owls as an incoming freshman while Rozentale and Galeron will sit out the 2019-20 season as transfers.
Nikola Ozola
Hometown: Jurmala, Latvia | Position: Guard | Height: 5'7"
A native of Latvia, the point guard has represented her country internationally the last four years. In 2018, Ozola played in the European Championship for both the U-20 and U-18 teams and led the latter to a fourth place finish. She was named to the Latvian Republic Youth Championship All-Star Five in 2016 and was named the Youth Athlete of the Year for her home city of Jurmala the same year.
Janeta Rozentale
Hometown: Dobeles, Latvia | Previous school: USF | Position: Forward | Height: 6'0"
Rozentale played in 30 games for USF last season as a true freshman. In a game against New Hampshire, she scored a season-high seven points, pulled down four rebounds, had three steals, one block and an assist.
Prior to USF, she averaged 12.7 points and 12.5 rebounds for her club team, TTT Riga Juniores. She also played for junior Latvian national teams, suiting up for the U-19 team in 2017 and averaging 8.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. With the U-18 team, she averaged 12.4 points and 10.7 rebounds and recorded three double-doubles which included a 20-point, 18-rebound effort in a win against Lithuania.
Sofia Galeron
Hometown: Burgos, Spain | Previous school: Boise State | Position: Forward | Height: 6'2"
As a redshirt freshman, Galeron appeared in 29 games with Boise State. She shot 45.2 percent from the field for the year which included a 3-for-3, seven-point, five-rebound performance against Northern Iowa and 3-of-4 and four rebounds against CSUN.
Internationally, Galeron has represented Spain for several years. She led her home country to a 7-0 mark in the FIBA 3x3 U-18 European Championship Qualifiers in Riga, Latvia in 2016 and went on to play with the team in the World Cup in China. She was a starter on Spain's U-17 team at the 2016 FIBA World Championship in Zaragoza, Spain, helping the team to a sixth place finish. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player after leading the squad in scoring (13.0 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds per game). Galeron played for Spain the previous year in the FIBA U-16 European Championship and led the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and finished second in scoring (8.8 ppg) while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor. Spain finished in fourth place overall that year.
Incoming Class
The three new additions join five other signees from the early signing period (story). Ozola, Rozentale and Galeron will join Tanyia Gordon, N'deye Astou Gaye, Allie Tylka, Lotta Vehka-aho and Alexa Zaph as newcomers in 2019.
