EL PASO, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (18-26, 5-13 C-USA) dropped Saturday's matchup against UTEP (14-29, 7-11 C-USA) by a score of 6-4. FAU jumped out in front with a 4-0 lead, but was unable to hang on after the Miners scored off a two-run home run in the third and a four-run inning in the fourth.
Key Plays:
In the top of the first inning,
Madisyn Palmer reached on a walk and stole second base.
Samantha Lageyre then hammered a triple and advanced to home on a throwing error by the Miners' right fielder. With the two runs scored in the frame, the Owls charged out in front, 2-0. The Owls kept rolling in the top of the third, as
Danielle Bieberle came in to pinch run for
Mia Olson and stole second base. Bieberle would then make her way around the bases following a wild pitch and a passed ball with
Myah Murray at the plate. Murray then hammered a solo shot to center field, the first of her career, to help the Owls go up 4-0. The Miners cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third following a two-run home run by Courtney Smith. UTEP then provided more run support with a four-run inning in the fourth frame, which helped the Miners pull off their first sweep over the Owls with a 6-4 feat.
