EL PASO, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (18-25, 5-12 C-USA) had a tough outing Friday night against UTEP (13-29, 6-11 C-USA), as the Owls drop both games of the doubleheader. In game one, the Miners pushed across eight runs in the fourth inning to elevate to a 9-5. The Owls were unable to get much going in game two, dropping the contest 8-0.

Key Plays:
Fayth Davis led off the top of the second inning with a double and
Angela Agurkis followed with a base hit.
Lauren Whitt then drew a walk to load the bases for
Ashleigh Jennings, who captured an RBI single to score Davis.
Samantha Lageyre then delivered a two-run single to send home Whitt and Jennings to help the Owls go up, 3-0. In the bottom of the frame, Linda Garcia delivered an RBI single, but the damage stopped there as a 9-2-6 double play ended the inning. The Miners scored eight runs on six hits and some help from the Owls, as FAU racked up multiple errors in the inning. In the top of the fifth,
Mia Olson hit her 10th home run of the year, as her two run shot to left center field also scored Lageyre. The Owls had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning with the tying-run at the plate, but were unable to pull off the comeback, falling 9-5.

Notables:
- Davis was 3-3 at the plate. One of those hits counted as her ninth double of the year, which is tied for most on the team
- Olson is now tied for third with Blair Bodenmiller in career home runs with 20
- Lageyre snagged a base and is now 13-13 on the year. The senior also was 2-3 at the plate
- The Owls captured their 27th double play of the year
- Lageyre, Davis, Whitt, Olson and Jennings scored the five runs for the Owls

Game 2
Key Plays:
UTEP scored two runs off a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. In the bottom of the fourth, the Miners tacked on two more runs off two hits and an error and kept it going in the bottom of the fifth, as Kasey Duffield hammered a solo home run to help the Miners go up, 5-0. The Miners shut down the game early, scoring three runs with no outs in the six inning to win in decisive fashion, 8-0.Â

Notables:
- The Owls came up with their 28th double play of the season, which came in the bottom of the third
- Olson tallied her ninth double of the season, which is tied with Davis as the leader on the team
- Maya Amm captured her first career hit
