FRIDAY'S GAME TIME HAS BEEN CHANGED. It is now a 4 p.m. Eastern start for the series opener.
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 27 Florida Atlantic University baseball team will move past the midway point of the Conference USA season this weekend, with a three-game set scheduled against WKU in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Â
Owls' Midweek in Review
The Owls (25-11, 12-3) sit atop the C-USA standings halfway through the slate, and have won five of six road contests against league foes. They now have also won four of five midweek games after topping UCF Tuesday, 5-3. Andru Summerall hit his second home run in as many games, and the staff gave up two earned runs to lower their season ERA to 4.00, the lowest in the conference.
Owls' Weekend in Preview
WKU (17-17-1, 8-6-1 C-USA), after starting out 7-1-1, have lost five of six in the league. The Hilltoppers were swept by Middle Tennessee and lost the first two to Marshall before a 16-11 win in the finale last Saturday. They moved back to .500 overall with a 12-7 win Tuesday over Belmont. The breakout offensive star in the league is newcomer Jake Sanford, batting .397 with 16 home runs and 49 RBI. His average ranks third, with the other two stats (as well as 56 hits, 49 runs scored and an .844 slugging percentage) leading all C-USA hitters.
Â
Weekend Probable Starting Pitchers
The Owls and Hilltoppers share both C-USA and Sun Belt Conference history, and as such, will play for the 40th time Friday night. FAU leads 27-12 overall, 21-8 under Coach McCormack, and have won 13 of 15 in the series. Last year, with the third game (and Owls' Senior Day) rained out, it was a shortened two-game FAU sweep in Boca Raton by scores of 15-2 and 6-5 in 11 innings.
