Gabriel and Williams Shine in Loss on Senior Night

BOCA RATON, Fla. – On their senior night in the Burrow, the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball seniors showed up in a major way. Ra'Kyra Gabriel and Jamaria Williams each scored in double figures in a loss against Old Dominion on Thursday night.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- The Owls jumped out to an early lead spearheaded by a 3-pointer from Williams in the opening minute. Gabriel followed that with a 3-pointer and a foul shot of her own a few moments later. A layup from Abby Voss pushed the Owls ahead by seven. The Owls grew their lead to 10 with 2:31 left in the period, but the Monarchs came back to end the quarter down five
- The Owls got hot from 3-point range in the second quarter, connecting on five 3-pointers in the frame. Myka Johnson Matthews and Addison Ryan each had two in the period. Both teams went back-and-forth for most of the quarter and eventually came to a tie midway through the period. A three from Johnson Matthews pushed the Owls back ahead shortly after. The Owls would take a three-point lead into the second half
- Janae Thomas opened the scoring in the second half with a layup. The Owls hung on to their lead until ODU used a 12-0 run to take control
- The Owls started the fourth quarter down four points, but a layup from Williams brought FAU back within two. After an ODU turnover, Williams made another basket to tie the game. The Monarchs responded with a three, but Gabriel answered with her own on the next possession. ODU scored five straight points and held on to win
GAME NOTES
- Gabriel recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The senior hit two 3-pointers and had two steals in her last game in the Burrow
- Williams had 15 points in the game for her sixth double-digit game of the season. She also had four rebounds and a career-high four assists in the game
- Johnson Matthews also added 15 points along with six rebounds and four assists. Her six rebounds were a new career high
- Ryan had a career high eight points in the game along with an assist
- The Owls connected on 10 3-pointers
