Baseball Set for Final Non-Conference Weekend Series

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team will face off against Northeastern University for a three-game set beginning Friday, the final weekend series this season that will be against a non-Conference USA school.

Owls' Midweek in Review
A 6-3 loss Tuesday to Appalachian State dropped the Owls (6-7 overall) to 0-4 in midweek matchups. Second baseman Francisco Urbaez kept up his hot-hitting ways, with his fifth multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 and blasting his third home run of the year. The junior newcomer is batting .405 (fourth in C-USA), slugging .738 (second) and also has a team-best .457 on-base percentage.

Owls' Weekend in Preview
Northeastern (5-6) fell in their first battle this week in the Sunshine State, 5-2 to Villanova on Wednesday in Port Charlotte. Just prior to that, they also faced an Owl opponent from earlier this year, Illinois, splitting two games against the Illini in Conway, South Carolina, in games hosted by Coastal Carolina. The leading hitter for the Huskies is Scott Holzwasser at .389, while Corey DiLoreto hits .375 and has a team-high 10 RBI.

Weekend Probable Starting Pitchers
Once the weekend is up, these two teams will have met 25 times. In the previous 22 – all taking place in Boca Raton – it is a 16-5-1 FAU advantage. The Owls and Huskies met for multiple games every year from 1987 to 1990, once in 1991, twice in 1994, once again in 1995 and six times in 1996. Since the turn of the century, the only two games have both been FAU victories: on March 21, 2001 (6-4) and March 1, 2011 (14-1).
