BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (15-18, 3-6 C-USA) fell short of avoiding the sweep at WKU (26-5, 9-0 C-USA) on Sunday, dropping the rubber match 10-2. FAU's two runs in the first two frames was all the Owls could manage in six innings of play.
Â
Key Plays:
Madisyn Palmer got things started with a base hit and advanced to third following a passed ball and sacrifice bunt laid down
Samantha Lageyre.
Mia Olson then hammered a single down the middle to score Palmer and put one on the board for the Owls. FAU's lead did not last for long, as Kendall Smith delivered a two-run home run to gain the lead, 2-1. With the bases loaded in the top of the second, Lageyre drew a walk to send
Carolyn Rosa home from third to knot up the ballgame. In the top of the third, the Hilltoppers capitalized on a few breakdowns from the Owl defense, resulting in five runs off of three hits and an error. The Hilltoppers ended the game early in the bottom of the sixth inning, capturing three runs with two outs in the inning.
