Sandy Owls Take Two at FAU Beach Bash

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The 16^th-ranked Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team won both of its matches at the FAU Beach Bash on Saturday. The Owls defeated North Alabama 4-1 and swept Tampa 5-0. FAU is now 9-6 on the season. Over the course of the two matches, FAU swept on nine of 10 scoring courts.

Match 1 vs. North Alabama
Kaila Dorish and Savannah Pesante, as usual, started the scoring with a 21-12, 21-11 win on court four. Megan McGrath and Jillienne Cangelosi followed suit, taking the no. 5 court 21-7, 21-12. Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris clinched the match, winning 21-12, 21-11 at no. 2. On court three, Amanda Silva and Nicole Grant cruised to a 21-14, 21-9 win. Carly Scarbrough and Nicole Navarro took the first set at no. 1, but the Lions rallied to tie the match and took the third set 15-8 to avoid the sweep.

Match 2 vs. Tampa
Playing in their first scoring match of the year, Johannah Cummines and Kristi Tekavec swept on court five 21-14, 21-16 to give FAU a 1-0 lead. Mcgrath and Cangelosi recovered from a second set loss at no. 4 to take the third set 15-11. Silva and Grant clinched a match for the second time, this time with a pair of match 21-9 wins on court 2. Brok and Morris, playing their first career match at no. 1, had to fight off a tenacious Tampa duo, eventually winning 21-18, 21-16. On court two, Dorish and Pesante took a pair of 21-16 decisions to complete the sweep. Lily Richman and Ashlan Cunningham won 21-11, 21-15 on the exhibition court.
