Owls' Weekend in Review
A three-game sweep of Rice this past weekend has vaulted the Owls (14-7, 3-0 Conference USA) into first place in the league standings. The three wins makes for now eight in a row, and 11 in the last 12. Francisco Urbaez is the reigning C-USA Hitter of the Week, and at .435, leads the league in batting average by 20 points. He is No. 24 in the nation in average and is also 20th in slugging percentage at .783 (also tops in C-USA). Eric Rivera is No. 1 in the league and No. 8 in the country with 34 hits, and has 12 multi-hit efforts in the Owls' 21 games so far. He's also tied for first in the conference with 23 runs scored.

Owls' Midweek in Preview
FGCU (13-6) has won two of three in each of the last two weekends, over Quinnipiac and Rutgers. That stretch came just after beating then-No. 5 Florida in the second of two games in Gainesville. Like Urbaez and Rivera, the Eagles' Joe Kinker has also had a hot start to the year, hitting .462, seventh in DI, and also ranks seventh nationally with a .576 on-base percentage. Teammate Alex Brait has 32 hits, 14th in the country, and Jay Hayes is at a .394 average with four home runs (tying him for the team lead with Kinker) and 25 RBI.
Â
Midweek Probable Starting Pitching Matchup
These two squads, as is the norm, was scheduled to play twice last year, home and home. The road matchup in Fort Myers would be canceled due to rain, and an originally scheduled home game at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches was pushed back the next day, April 25, to Boca Raton and FAU Baseball Stadium. The Eagles would win the game, 4-2, to extend their advantage in the series out to 12-7. All-time in Fort Myers, it's 6-4 in favor of FGCU.
