Game Notes:
Series History:
Series Record: 7-2 (FAU)
These two teams met for the first time on March 22, 2014, which coincided with FAU's first season in Conference USA. The Owls lost the first meeting, 2-0, but came back in the next two games to claim the series. FAU had a six-game winning streak on Southern Miss until March 25, 2016. The Owls have never lost a series against Southern Miss and are hoping that statistic stands after this weekend.
Â
Last Time Out:
The last series between these two teams took place at FAU Softball Stadium in March 2016 with No. 23 FAU winning the weekend, 2-1. The Owls opened up the series with a 3-0 victory, but the Golden Eagles took the next game 3-2. FAU then clinched the series with a 3-2 win on Sunday.

Eyeing Southern Miss:
The Golden Eagles were unable to punch a ticket to the 2018 C-USA Tournament, as their six-game losing streak at the end of the season hurt their chances. Southern Miss finished with a 19-36 record (8-16 in conference) to end up at the bottom of the standings. In 2019, the Golden Eagles are 14-10 (1-2 in conference) and avoided a North Texas sweep last Sunday with a 7-3 win. Southern Miss has gotten quality wins, such as a 5-2 victory over Michigan State and a 5-3 win against UT Arlington. There are three Golden Eagles who are batting above .300, with senior Sarah Van Schaik leading the way with a .411 batting average with 23 RBI, 30 hits and a 0.630 slugging percentage. Chase Nelson (.384) and Lacey Sumerlin (.313) are also heating it up at the plate. When it comes to pitching, the staff has a combined 2.03 ERA. Junior Bailie Springfield (5-0) leads the team with a 1.42 ERA, 18 strikeouts, seven walks and has been holding opponents to a .204 batting average.

FAU at Parents' Weekend Tournament:
The Owls went 3-3 at the Parents' Weekend Tournament hosted at FAU Softball Stadium. FAU started out slow on Friday night against ECU, as they were on the edge of being run-ruled by the Pirates on two different occasions. The Owls scored two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth inning to keep the game going, but the Owls could not make up all the runs they needed, resulting in a 12-5 loss. FAU bounced back against Stony Brook in the second game of the night with a 7-3 victory to go into day two of the tournament at .500 again. The Owls defeated Yale in their only game on Saturday night, 5-3 in a contest that went on past 12:30 a.m. FAU looked to be tired in their first game on Sunday, falling to Illinois State 6-2, despite a late rally in the seventh inning. The Owls woke up by the second game of Sunday night, as they were able to close out the weekend with a huge 4-0 shutout victory over Purdue to end the Boilermakers' eight-game winning streak. FAU faced Notre Dame in their only home midweek matchup of the season last Tuesday, but fell to the Irish 6-1 after a tough inning in the top of the third.
