BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (5-19, 2-9 C-USA) were led by four double-digit scorers and two 20-plus point scorers on Saturday in a 86-70 win against UTSA (6-17, 1-10 C-USA).
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Myka Johnson Matthews put the Owls on the board first with a free throw 10 seconds into the game. After trading baskets, FAU went on an 11-0 run propelled by Jamaria Williams who had six of the 11 points to take a double-digit lead. The Roadrunners cut it to single digits again but a three-pointer from Ra'Kyra Gabriel with 59 seconds left in the quarter extended it back to double digits
UTSA got the margin down to five points with 2:37 left in the second quarter, but the Owls ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 12-point lead into the break
The Owls pushed their lead to 15 with 1:04 left in the third quarter, but the Roadrunners ended the frame on a 6-0 run to go into the final quarter with a nine-point deficit
FAU used a balance attack from Gauthier and Williams in the fourth quarter to outscore UTSA, 29-22. Gauthier scored 12 points in the period with two 3-pointers. Williams scored 11 and went 6-of-6 from the free throw line down the stretch. The Roadrunners got within three points with 4:07 left in the game, but the Owls showed composure and outscored UTSA 15-2 to finish the game with win

GAME NOTES
Williams got her first starting nod of the season and made the most of the opportunity. The senior recorded a career-high 29 points on 8-of-11 shooting. She also had a career-high six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Williams also stepped up at the charity stripe, making 11-of-12 free throws
Gauthier also had a career high with 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting and was perfect from range (4-of-4). She finished with five rebounds, two assists and a steal
Matthews Johnson had 14 points in the game along with a career-high four assists. She also had three steals and three rebounds
Gabriel was the fourth double-digit scorer with 12 points in only 18 minutes of action. She pulled down four boards
Janae Thomas pulled down a career-high five rebounds
The Owls shot a season-high 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from three-point range and season-high 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the field. FAU's 86 points were the most the Owls have scored this season
FAU finished with 15 assists, which is the most for the squad since Dec. 20 when the Owls had 19 against Michigan State
It was the first time FAU has had two 20-point scorers in the same game this season and first time since having three 20-plus point scorers at UTSA last season
