CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (8-8) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon, following a 6-0 loss to George Washington. FAU was a manageable two runs behind the Colonials in the top of the seventh, but GW's four runs in the top of inning was difficult to come back from on the first day of the Carolina Classic.
Â
Game Summary:
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when George Washington put two runs on the board following a fielding error and a steal at home. It was a two-run game until the top of the seventh inning after the Colonials scored on a sacrifice bunt, double and a homerun to right center by GW's Alessandra Ponce. The Owls managed six hits and left runners on base on five different occasions, which made it tough to score a run all afternoon.
Â
Notables:
- Madisyn Palmer captured two stolen bases and needs three more to tie with Emily Lochten as the program's leader. Palmer also was 2-4 at the plate
- Jolie Duffner was 2-3 at the plate on the afternoon
- Mia Olson (2-5) pitched five innings for the Owls, allowing two walks, five hits and no earned runs
