CLERMONT, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team (5-7) captured two wins over Stetson during Friday afternoon's doubleheader to snap a five-game losing skid. The Owls' 18 hits on the day matched the amount the team had all of last weekend over five games.
Â
Quotable:
On playing Stetson:
"Stetson is a solid program and they have been for years when we played in the Atlantic Sun Conference," said Head Coach Joan Joyce. "Coach Frank Griffin does a great job with that team and they will compete in their conference."
Â
On the team's performance
"We started the game a little slow, but bats came around and we had some really good hits. Our pitchers did really well. I wanted to give each of them four to five innings of work, so I can still use them tomorrow. We had great fielding as well."
Â
Game 1
Key Plays:
The Owls started to heat up at the plate in the top of the fourth inning when Mia Olson doubled to centerfield. Her double sent home Ashleigh Jennings, who previously reached second base on a throwing error by Stetson's third baseman. Later in the inning, Jolie Duffner singled up the middle, sending Danielle Bieberle home, which stretched the Owls' lead to two runs. In the sixth inning, Samantha Lageyre recorded a single up the middle, stole second base and eventually made her way home following Olson's groundout to first base. Stetson couldn't get much done offensively thanks to great work done in the circle from Kelsey Morrison (3-1) and Kara Lokeinsky.

Notables:
Game 2
Key Plays:
Bieberle got things started offensively for the Owls following a single up the middle. Madisyn Palmer reached the bases on a walk and on a 2-2 count, Jennings lashed the ball down the middle to send home Bieberle and Palmer. Later in the inning, Jennings scored on a wild pitch, but Stetson responded in the top of the fourth inning with two runs to make it a 3-2 ballgame. The Owls had quite an inning in the fifth, after Olson singled to right center to send home Lageyre. With the bases loaded, Kaitlyn Burke hammered the ball to left field for two RBI, scoring Duffner and Olson. Bieberle then doubled to left field, which drove in Burke and Myah Murray, who previously reached on a walk to make the score 8-2. After Stetson went down the order in the top of the sixth inning, the Owls sealed the game following Burke's double to left field to score Murray and Abigail Morgan, who previously reached on a walk.
