BOCA RATON, Fla. – Coming off of a share of the Conference USA regular season championship in 2018, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team took the 2019 season one step further by winning the title outright, and sending a remarkable class of seniors out in style.
Head coach
Patrick Baker – who can be heard in the video embedded above – finished his seventh season at the helm of the program, and led the team to its third-highest total of wins in history (a 15-4-2 mark that trailed only 16 wins achieved in 2003 and 2005).
Baker earned his second straight C-USA Coach of the Year award, and was joined superlatively by Midfielder of the Year
Mary O'Hara and co-Freshman of the Year
Luisa Daikeler. O'Hara,
Pernille Velta and
Alex Maxson were All-Conference First Team members;
Cassidy Wasdin was Second Team and All-Freshman; Daikeler was Third Team and All-Freshman.
Four Owls earned All-Region notoriety by United Soccer Coaches as well, with O'Hara being voted First Team, and Velta, Maxson and Daikeler to the Second Team. Maxson was chosen United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region and First Team C-USA All-Academic, and the squad as a whole made it four years in a row earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award.
Statistically, O'Hara paced the squad and was fourth in the conference with 11 goals, sixth all-time on the program single-season list (and as only the 11th player ever to reach double digits). Velta was just one away with nine, 11th ever, and placed ninth on the single-season ledger with a team-high seven assists, also third in the league. The duo each tallied 25 points on the season, placing in a tie for ninth ever at FAU (and ranking fourth-best in C-USA).
A plethora of Owls also made it onto the career leaderboard. Here is their final finish in each category:

A class of 10 tremendous seniors –
Tiril Haga,
Elisha Holmes,
Emma Jacobs, Maxson,
Jessica Monteiro, O'Hara,
Abby Ribas, Velta,
Maddie Winch and
Carolynn Wotring – finished their career by posting 50 wins over the last four seasons and making four C-USA postseason appearances (advancing to the finals as freshmen and as seniors, and to the semifinals each of the middle two years). Potentially as many as 20 returnees, alongside the next class of Owl newcomers, will attempt to make it a C-USA regular season three-peat under Coach Baker, entering his eighth year atop the program.
