BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team lost to St. Bonaventure 71-64 on Monday night as part of the Boca Raton Beach Classic. The Owls (4-4) had three players score in double figures in the loss.
The Owls started quickly, taking a 15-8 lead less than six minutes into the game. Five different FAU players scored during the run. After a Bonnies' 3-pointer cut the margin to four, 15-11, FAU responded with an even more impressive 15-2 run to extend its advantage to 17, 30-13, at the 6:27 mark of the first half. A late SBU (4-4) run trimmed the cushion to eight at the half, 33-25.
FAU was able to maintain a respectable margin in the early portion of the second half, and an
Everett Winchester jumper, followed by a
Cornelius Taylor 3-pointer pushed the lead back to 47-37 with 14 minutes left to play.
The Owls' were ahead 54-46 when St. Bonaventure began to rally again, eventually taking a 64-57 edge with three minutes to go. FAU pulled to within one on a
Kenan Blackshear layup with 1:19 left, but those were the last points FAU scored and the Bonnies were able to take the victory.
- Cornelius Taylor had 14 points to lead the Owls, the third game in a row he has been the team's leading scorer. He was also named to the all-tournament team
- Jailyn Ingram scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds
- Kenan Blackshear posted his first double-figure scoring game as an Owl with 10 points. He also had six rebounds
- FAU once again displayed its depth, as 11 players saw at least five minutes of action

"It came down to loose balls, rebounds, really those toughness plays. (St. Bonaventure) made them at the end...but overall, I was happy with how hard we played for the majority of the game."
