BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (5-7-1, 1-4-0) will continue their road stand at UAB (3-10-2, 1-3-1) Saturday night. First touch is set for 7 p.m.at BBVA Field with Conference USA tournament implications on the line.
About the Owls
In the Owls' last C-USA match, the team came up with a 1-0 overtime upset over then-ranked No. 15 Marshall. The win was the biggest for the program since 2000 when the team had beaten No. 4 UAB. Ivan Mykhailenko scored his third game-winning goal of the season in the game off a penalty kick in the 93rd minute. Mykhailenko has seven goals, which is ranked second in C-USA, and is leading the Owls in points (17), shots (28) and game-winning goals (3), which is tied for the seventh most in program history.
Alex Alexis continues to be key to setting up opportunities on offense. Alexis has six assists, which is ranked second in the conference, eighth in the NCAA. Several Owls have been playing consistently more minutes as of late. Adam O'Sullivan has a team's most 1,122 minutes with Alonso Coello Camarero following with 1,079 and Tom Abrahamsson with 926.
Goalkeeping duties have been split between seniors Hagay Jalon and Daniel Ragoo. Jalon was recorded with the blank sheet against Marshall last Saturday, which helped him achieve C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Haifa, Israel native has accumulated 25 saves for 1.65 Goals Against Average this year. Daniel Ragoo has also seen significant time at goal this year, as the senior has tallied 30 saves for a 2.11 GAA.
FAU is outshooting opponents in both periods, 72-65 in the first and 88-81 in the second. In the past five games, the Owls backfield unit has limited the opposing teams to five goals, while shutting out two. This season, the Owls have faced eight opponents who have been ranked or received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, making for the fifth strongest schedule in the nation.
About the Blazers
The Blazers are going into Saturday's match just ahead of the Owls in the conference standings with four points, as FAU follows with three. UAB is being outshot by opponents 210-104, but has led the way in saves with 61 as opposed to 44 by opponents. The team has the second most saves in the conference with 4.07 per game. UAB has not played in a conference game since Oct. 12, where they went on to pick up an important three points against the Gamecocks of South Carolina.
Blake White is the leading scorer for the Blazers with eight points on the year (four goals). Grayson Dupont follows with six points (two goals, two assists) and Joseph Buete with five (two goals, one assist). Two keepers have split time at goal this season. Senior Julian Mehl has led the way with 886 minutes on 10 starts and has come up with 40 saves and a 2.54 GAA. Seth Thorman has started six games, five against non-conference opponents, to record a 2.01 GAA and 20 saves.
Match History

In that game, Alex Alexis scored the equalizer at the 62nd minute to eventually force extra play. Alexis took the most shots for the Owls with three and Hagay Jalon came up with four saves. The last time FAU beat the Blazers was in 2016 off a 1-0 double overtime thriller.
