BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (3-12, 0-2 C-USA) was led by
Myka Johnson Matthews on Saturday afternoon in a 74-55 loss to Middle Tennessee (11-4, 2-0 C-USA). Johnson Matthews finished with 23 points, shooting 6-of-7 from the field.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- Both teams struggled to get on the board to start the game. Middle Tennessee was the first to get a shot to go, 2:21 into the game. FAU tied it up 15 seconds later. The Blue Raiders ended the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 16-3 lead
- The Owls got things going offensively in the second quarter, scoring 14 points. Six of those points came from Johnson Matthews
- FAU more than doubled their points total in the second half, scoring 38 points
GAME NOTES
- Johnson Matthews ended the game with 23 points, three steals and two assists. She was perfect from shots within the arc and 3-of-4 from 3-point range. During the game, she eclipsed 500 career points and now stands at 518
- Juliette Gauthier scored in double digits for the third straight game, putting up 12 points in the contest. She also had six rebounds, two assists and one steal
- Danneal Ford finished with five points, three rebounds and two assists. She surpassed 600 career points in the game. She has now scored 604 points in her career
- Ra'Kyra Gabriel had four points, two rebounds and two blocks. With 57 career blocks, Gabriel is now ninth all-time at FAU
UP NEXT
FAU will go on the road for the first time in 2019 next week. The Owls will go to Old Dominion on Thursday and then travel on to Charlotte on Saturday.
