BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (3-11, 0-1 C-USA) opened Conference USA play on Thursday night against preseason favorite UAB (13-1, 1-0 C-USA) at FAU Arena. Juliette Gauthier led the Owls with a career-high 21 points in the 89-64 loss.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Blazers connected on five 3-point attempts in the first quarter to take an early 28-12 lead heading into the second quarter
FAU cut into that lead in the second quarter, outscoring UAB 19-14. The Owls were led by Gauthier who put up 10 of those points alone
The Blazers extended their lead in the second half, outscoring the Owls 43-33.

GAME NOTES
Gauthier set a new career high for the second straight game, putting up 21 points in the game. The freshman was 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-6 from three. She was one rebound shy of a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds along with two assists
Amber Gaston added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting along with four rebounds
Ra'Kyra Gabriel crashed the boards, getting 10 rebounds in the game. She also had three points and a block. Gabriel is now one block away from breaking into FAU's top-all career blocked shots list
Jayla Adams had a career-high seven rebounds along with five points and four assists
The Owls had a season-low 12 turnovers in the game
FAU extended its streak of games with a 3-point basket to 266

FAU will stay at home to host Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. That game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
