Women's Basketball Gets The Best of Rival FIU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (4-16, 1-6 C-USA) got back into the winning column on Saturday afternoon against FIU (3-17, 0-7 C-USA). The Owls were led by four double-digit scorers in the 77-55 win.

FAU will hit the road to take on Louisiana Tech (Jan. 31) and Southern Miss (Feb. 2).

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
- The Owls took an early lead in the first quarter after Ra'Kyra Gabriel scored the first points of the game. FAU ended the quarter up, 10-7
- Powered by a 9-0 run, FIU took a five-point lead early in the second quarter. The Owls and Panthers went back and forth for the rest of the quarter, but FIU hit a shot at the buzzer to take a one-point lead into halftime
- Danneal Ford connected on her first 3-pointer since the season opener early in the third quarter to regain the lead for the Owls. That sparked a 7-0 run by the Owls with a pair of jumpers from Jamaria Williams and Juliette Gauthier. The Owls scored five-straight points to close out the quarter to go ahead by eight
- The Owls ended the game by outscoring FIU, 30-16, in the final quarter to secure the win
GAME NOTES
- The Owls were led by Ford, who recorded a season-high 22 points in the game. In her 100th career game, Ford had three rebounds, two assists and two steals. The two assists move her seven away from breaking into the top-10 career list at FAU
- Gauthier bagged her first career double-double with 19 points and a career high 10 rebounds. The freshman also had two assists
- Amber Gaston had a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. She was one rebound short of a double-double with nine boards
- Williams also had a career best with 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals
- The Owls put up a season-high 77 points in the game on a season-high 30 made field goals. FAU's 30 points in the fourth quarter were the most by the Owls in a quarter this season
- It was the first time this season the Owls had four players in double figures in scoring with Ford, Gauthier, Gaston and Williams achieving the feat
