Three FAU Volleyball Players Named Preseason All-Conference

Owls Picked to Finish Third in C-USA
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Three Florida Atlantic University volleyball players were named to the Preseason All-Conference USA team, the league office announced Thursday.

Junior Sigourney Kame made the All C-USA First Team following her sophomore year. Kame led the team in kills (375) and is C-USA's leading returner in kills per set at 3.85 per frame. She also posted a team-high 23 double-digit kill matches in 2017. The Paramaribo, Suriname native also made the Conference USA All-Academic Team and this summer, she was named best outside hitter at the CAZOVA Championships while helping the Surinamese National Team to a silver medal.

Senior Ivone Martinez led the nation in assists per set at 12.81 last season and was a Second Team All-Conference selection last year. She had a team-high nine double-doubles as a junior. Her 1,153 helpers was the third-best single season total in FAU history and she is fifth in program history with 2,202 career assists. Martinez also helped the Mexican National Team to a fourth place finish at the Central American and Caribbean Games over the summer.

Fellow senior Abbi Reid also made the Preseason All-Conference team. It is the second year in a row that Reid made the squad. Originally recruited to FAU as an outside hitter, Reid shifted to middle blocker as a sophomore and was named First Team All-Conference in 2016. Last season, she led the team in hitting percentage (.302) and blocks per set (0.79), while finishing second on the team in kills per set (3.08). Reid was named Second Team All C-USA for her efforts.

As a team, the Owls were picked to finish third in a poll of the league's head coaches, their highest predicted finish since joining C-USA. FAU (18-9 overall) finished fifth in conference play last season with a 9-5 record. The Owls advanced to the C-USA Tournament for the fifth season in a row.

The FAU volleyball team hosts Miami-Dade College in an exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 18, before officially opening the 2017 season on the road at the Sunshine State Challenge, hosted by the University of Miami, on Friday, Aug. 24.
