BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country will begin the 2018 season by hosting a meet, take part in a handful more for the regular season, and then host the Conference USA Championship as well ahead of NCAA postseason play.
Â
The regular season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 31, as the program hosts an event for the fifth straight season, the 2018 FAU Cross Country Invitational. It will take place at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, located at 12551 Glades Road in Boca Raton.
Â
Just the women compete next, on Sept. 15 at the UCF Alumni Invite in Orlando, and both sides head to Gainesville for Florida's Mountain Dew Invitational a week later, on Sept. 22. The FLRunners.com Invitational is another women's-only event (Sept. 28), and the following week, the men and women head out of state for the only time, to Cary, North Carolina, for the Great American XC Festival (Oct. 6).
One more meet finishes out the regular season, the South Florida Invitational in Tampa on Oct. 12. The 2018 Conference USA XC Championship, again at South County Park, is Saturday, Oct. 27, and this year's NCAA South Regional takes place in Tallahassee on Nov. 9.
Â
"We're extremely excited to host the C-USA Cross Country Championship for the first time in program history," said Head Coach
Alex Smolka. "Apart from hosting the conference meet in Boca Raton, we'll host our annual invitational, measure ourselves against the best programs in Florida at the UF Invitational, compete at the Great American XC festival for the 1st time since 2005, and make our other yearly trips (to Orlando, Lakeland and Tampa) before concluding the 2018 season at the NCAA regional meet in Tallahassee."
