Track and Field Closes Out Florida Relays Saturday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University track and field continued its march towards the postseason by taking part in the highly-competitive Pepsi Florida Relays over the weekend, on the University of Florida campus.

Notables:

Anne-Catherine Wasser lowered her personal best and finished 13th in a field of 52 hurdlers in the 400 meters, running a 1:00.78
That is now the sixth-fastest time in FAU program history
The 4x800 meter relay team of Mikaela Jonsson, Erica Lersch, Megan Giovanniello and Liz Wellman notched the school's third fastest time in the 4x800 meter relay, crossing 11th in a time of 9:18.39
Wellman also took part in the 1,500 meters, finishing in 4:46.28. Other finishers over the weekend include:
5,000m - Christina Schultz (18:06.35)
100m - Ana Holland (12.34)
400m - Sherline Valentin (56.15)
The 4x400 team of Wasser, Holland, Roshelle Francois and Valentin ran a 3:48.61
The 4x100 team of Holland, Wasser, Jada James and Crystal McDougle ran a 47.50

"It is always exciting and an honor to compete at such a high-level meet as the Florida Relays," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "The weather (rain, wind, etc.) wasn't ideal, that is why a lot of times weren't as fast as we would've liked, however the experience of racing against Olympians and NCAA champions will serve us well in the weeks to come."

What's Next:

The Owls return to Coral Gables each of the next two weekends, the first of which is April 6-7, the UM Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Only three meets remain before postseason action for the squad.
