Owls Split Doubleheader with Marshall

BOCA RATON, Fla. - (March 24, 2018) - The Florida Atlantic University softball team split its doubleheader against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday evening. After a 4-0 loss in the first game, the Owls bounced back to win game two 10-3.
Game 1
Key Plays
After four scoreless innings, Marshall (14-15-1) second baseman Elicia D'Orazio broke the ice when she scored on a fielding error. Aly Harrell broke the game open with a three-run home run to left field to push the score to 4-0. The Owls (17-15) managed two baserunners in the bottom of the seventh, but didn't score.
Notables
- Emily Lochten doubled to left field, her ninth of the season, and walked twice.
- Madisyn Palmer had two infield singles, one to shortstop and another to second base.
- Tatum Buckley, Mia Olson and Kaitlyn Burke also had hits for the Owls.
Game 2
Key Plays
The Owls started with momentum in the first inning as Kelsey Morrison sent a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Lochten, followed by a Marshall throwing error that allowed Palmer to score. Alex Miller kept the rally going with a double to the right side to bring in Buckley, making the score 3-0. The Thundering Herd got on the board in the third inning with a RBI single from shortstop Grayson Radcliffe, then tied the score with two more runs in the top of the fifth. The Owls earned the lead back when Lauren Whitt singled to left field to score Morrison in the bottom half of the inning. Lochten led off the bottom of the sixth with a double, followed by a Palmer bunt single. Buckley reached on a bunt base hit of her own that plated Lochten and advanced Palmer to third. A Mia Olson single and Marshall error made the score 6-3. Morrison followed with a three-run blast to left to clear the bases. Later in the inning, Miller scored on a Samantha Lageyre sacrifice fly to account for the final score.

- Madisyn Palmer had three hits and two runs scored in the game.
- Tatum Buckley singled, walked, drove in a run and had two runs scored.
- Kelsey Morrison hit her fourth homerun and threw 2.1 innings in relief to pick up the win in the circle.
