BOCA RATON, Fla. - In a game that broke the record for longest regular season game in school history, the Florida Atlantic University softball lost to Rutgers 5-4 in 15 innings on Wednesday. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Owls, who are now 15-14 on the season.

Key Plays

Rutgers (13-11) led 2-0 in the bottom of the second when Lauren Whitt ripped a single to left field to drive in Amanda Peck, cutting the Scarlet Knights' cushion in half. Alex Miller brought in Tatum Buckley on a RBI single in the fourth inning to tie the score 2-2.

Rutgers broke the tie with a run in the top of the eighth, but Whitt quickly answered back with another RBI base hit that allowed Peck to come home to knot the score again, 3-3.

In the top of the 12th inning, Rutgers' Myah Moy broke the tie with a solo home run to deep center field, but Kelsey Morrison answered with a solo homerun of her own in the bottom half of the inning.

The Scarlet Knights scored again in the top of the 15^th. FAU got the tying run to third in the home half of the frame, but a strikeout ended the game.

Notables

The contest is the fourth in school history to stretch to 15 innings, tying two different games against Stetson (May 4, 2001 and May 13, 2004) and a game against FIU (May 8, 2007). All three previous games occurred in conference tournaments.
Tatum Buckley tied Jen Musillo and Nikki Myers for most innings pitched in a single game, going the distance in the circle for the Owls.
Buckley also had a pair of hits and scored a run.
Morrison hit a home run for the second game in a row as part of a 3-for-3 night at the plate.
Mia Olson had three hits in four at bats.
Lauren Whitt also tallied three hits and drove in two runs.
