BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team scored four times in their first at-bat and stranded 13 Miami baserunners in defeating the Hurricanes on Wednesday night at FAU Baseball Stadium, 5-4.

Quotable

"It counts as one win and it's one of 55 games that we play this year," said Head Coach John McCormack. "It's nice, especially because Miami kind of built college baseball for everybody. I know they have some young guys over there, and people look at this game as something more than I do. But it's a win."

The Turning Point

The first four batters in the FAU (7-1) lineup reached on hits, as Tyler Frank doubled, followed by singles by Joe Montes, David Miranda to knock in a run, and Pedro Pages. An error on the Pages hit scored the second run, a Cody Wilson RBI groundout the third, and a Diamond Johnson base hit the fourth. UM (3-5) scored once in the second and twice in the third, but Montes' sacrifice fly made it 5-3 through four.

The Finish

It became a one-run game again after a Hurricane run in the seventh, and Drew Peden came on with two outs in that frame and got a pop out to end it. In the eighth, a Miami double and single put runners on the corners with nobody out, and elicited a mound visit by McCormack. He stuck with Peden, who went strikeout-lineout-strikeout to strand the tying run on third, and in the ninth, Zach Schneider left two more UM runners on with a game-ending liner to second baseman Eric Rivera.

Frank had two doubles and two runs scored
For the fifth straight game, Pages had two hits and is now at .375 on the year
Johnson's RBI in the first was his team-leading sixth

The Arms

Nick Prather pitched four innings to start, striking out a career high-matching four
Peden earned the win to go to 3-0, pitching 1 1/3 innings and striking out two
Schneider now has four saves in four chances in four appearances
The Owls struck out 10 Hurricanes

The Owls travel over 3,200 miles to play four games this weekend, in Eugene, Oregon against the University of Oregon Ducks. Game one is Friday night at 9 p.m. EST.
