The Florida Atlantic University softball team earned its second and third wins of the year Friday night with a 3-0 shutout against Michigan State and an 8-5 extra inning win against Bethune-Cookman. FAU's record is now 3-1.
The games were part of the First Pitch Classic tournament featuring Boston University, Bethune-Cookman, Duke, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, and Ohio State.

Buckley helped herself by driving in Jolie Duffner with a single to right scoring the game's first run. In a hot sixth inning, Amanda Peck reached on a bunt single, then advanced to second on Lochten's single up the middle. Palmer then reached base on a fielder's choice and later crossed the plate, right behind Lochten, courtesy of a Michigan State error for the Owls' final two runs.

Lochten scored early on a single from Buckley that gave the Owls the lead in the first inning. Kaitlyn Burke laid down a sac bunt later in the inning to bring in Palmer. Buckley knocked a single by the pitcher to bring in Palmer in the third. Lochten sent her second home run of the year over deep center field in the fifth, giving the Owls their fourth run. In the ninth, Lochten lifted a double to right field, bringing home Caitlin Hogue, followed by another double from Buckley to plate Palmer for the Owls' final run.

The Owls' next game of the Classic is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday against Ohio State. The Tournament games pick up again at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will run throughout Saturday and Sunday.
