DALLAS – John Marting of the Florida Atlantic University men's cross country team has been awarded the institute's Conference USA Spirit of Service Award for the fall. Marting was one of 13 student-athletes to be honored with the award by the league on Wednesday.
Â
"Being a student-athlete, there are a lot of people pouring time and wisdom into you on a daily basis. Service is a simple way of paying it forward and giving back to the community," said Marting.
Â
The North Palm Beach, Florida native finished his senior season with three top-50 finishes, including an 18th place showing at the Great American XC Festival.Â
Â
Throughout his time at FAU, Marting has dedicated his time to giving back to the community. In the fall semester he spent time volunteering at local elementary schools and helping with freshmen move-in day, Mental Health Awareness Day and other campus events.
Â
Marting will graduate in the spring of 2019 with a bachelor's degree in business management with a concentration in leadership and applied management skills. He is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's honoree. Â Â
