BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University baseball's "best of the fall" will be determined after two days and 16 innings of action, with the 2018 edition of the program's annual Fall World Series to be held Tuesday and Wednesday at FAU Baseball Stadium.
The Red Squad and Blue Squad will get it on during a continuous game over those two days. It will be broken in half, eight innings of gameplay both days, starting at about 1:30 p.m. Should things end in a tie, the least amount of walks issued by one team's pitching staff will determine the winner (a second, if needed, tiebreaker will be levied by Head Coach
John McCormack).
A new kink in this year's version is that each team's two captains will lead the way this year, including setting the lineups, pitching rotations and changes, giving the signs, coaching the bases, etc. Other rules include pitchers only being able to throw three total innings, and if someone goes more than an inning on Tuesday on the mound, that pitcher won't be allowed to toe the rubber on Wednesday.
Here is how each side will be broken up:
Red Squad – Captains Gunnar Lambert and Blake Sanderson
- Pitchers – Dylan Carter, Eric Keating, Dylan O'Connell, Jordan Poore, Dustin Reville, Ryan Sandberg, Sanderson, Zach Schneider, Jackson Vescelus
- Position Players – Wilfredo Alvarez, Mitchell Hartigan (also available to pitch), Lambert, B.J. Murray, Richie Nizza, Jacob Pino, Eric Rivera, Andru Summerall
Blue Squad – Captains Pedro Pages and Nick Swan
- Pitchers – Vince Coletti, Hunter Cooley, Jon Jon Kostantis, Mike Ruff, Michael Schuler, Swan, Vladimir Zavala
- Position Players – Jared DeSantolo, Garrett Evans, Diamond Johnson, Jacob Josey (also available to pitch), Joe Montes, Bobby Morgensen, Pages, Nicholas Toney, Francisco Urbaez, Harry Vargas
This series comes near the end of fall preseason practice for the Owls, wrapping up this week. Stay tuned for the 2019 spring schedule for the squad, which will be released in the coming days.
