Volleyball Falls to North Texas at C-USA Tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team fell to North Texas in four sets (16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18) in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament on Friday. The Owls record dropped to 21-7 with the defeat.

·      The Owls got out to an 8-3 lead early in the first set, but North Texas rallied to tie the score at 11
·      FAU immediately responded with a 17-5 run to take the frame 25-16
·      In set number two, the Mean Green ran out to a 15-7 advantage and never looked back, taking the set 25-16 to tie the match
·      The third set was a nip-and-tuck affair that featured 12 ties and three lead changes. The final tie came at 23-23 when NT scored back-to-back points to win the frame and take a two sets to one lead
·      Set number four was also closely contested. The score was even at 12 when a 6-0 Mean Green run gave them an 18-12 cushion. FAU was unable to recover, eventually falling 25-18, clinching the match for NT
·      Sigourney Kame finished with a match high 16 kills, including career kill number 1,000. She finishes her junior year with a .327 hitting percentage, the fifth best single-season total in school history
·      Massiel Matos had her 12th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs
·      Ivone Martinez dished out 42 assists on the night. She ends her career second in assists for a season (1,264) and for a career (3,466)
·      Abbi Reid closed out her career with 942 kills, 250 block assists (seventh in school history) and a career hitting percentage of .304, which is second in FAU history
·      Alex Cardona had nine digs on the night, completing her time as an Owl with 947
