BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team will play at No. 19 Charlotte on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Originally scheduled in September, Wednesday's Halloween matchup is a makeup due to Hurricane Florence.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls (2-10, 1-5 C-USA) hosted No. 3 Kentucky for Senior Day on Sunday. The Owls were able to even the score after the Wildcats took a lead in the 32nd minute. At the 71 minute mark, the Owls were pressuring Kentucky and
Alonso Coello Camarero got off a shot that ricocheted out of the keeper's arms straight to
Jean Paul Rafols. Rafols got his foot on it and snuck it past the keeper. FAU held Kentucky in check for most of the game, but the Wildcats were able to score with less than three minutes left to win it.
CATCHING UP WITH THE OWLS
Redshirt-junior goalkeeper
Hagay Jalon has played every match in-goal for the Owls this season. His 60 total saves and his 4.62 saves per game average leads C-USA. The Haifa, Israel native has registered two clean sheets this season which is the sixth most in the league.
The Owls are led on offense by
Gonzalo Pena Barrasus and
Jean Paul Rafols who each have seven points on the season with three goals and one assist.
Alonso Coello Camarero has the second most points with six on one goal and four assists. His four assists is tied for the eighth most in C-USA.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Charlotte (10-3-1, 4-2-0 C-USA) is ranked 19th in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll and they are in fourth place in the C-USA standings. The 49ers have shut out 10 teams this season.
Bruce Daniel and Patrick Hogan lead Charlotte with four goals scored this season and Teddy Chaouche is the team's leading assist earner with eight on the year.
