BOCA RATON, Fla. – Only one more match remains on the regular season docket for Florida Atlantic University soccer, a quick road trip down to Miami Friday night to take on FIU at 7 p.m. The Owls (10-7-1, 7-1-1 C-USA) have clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Championship, but could still be recognized as co-regular season champions with a win Friday and a North Texas loss in their finale Sunday.
Owls' Week in Review
FAU earned a split in Texas last week, falling to North Texas but rebounding to defeat Rice to post double digits in wins for the fourth consecutive season. Their seven wins in C-USA play is the most since joining the league, and if the Owls were to record an eighth, would become only the fourth team in program history to reach that plateau.
Owls' Week in Preview
The Panthers (0-16-1, 0-8-1 C-USA) have lost their last four matches after a 2-2 tie vs. Louisiana Tech on Sept. 30. They too were in Texas last weekend, and fell in both efforts, against Rice first (5-0), then North Texas on Sunday (2-0). On the season, opposing teams have outscored FIU 61-11, with a 30-7 advantage by league foes. The Panthers' 11 goals have been scored by Ashley Adams, with five, and three apiece from Rayquel Berry and Kaydeen Jack.
Opponent History
The Owls and Panthers have had 32 matchups all-time, with the FIU up in the series, 22-8-2. The last three matchups have all gone FAU's way, the last two by twin 1-0 scores. Last year's regular season finale, also in Miami, saw the game-winner come in the 65th minute on an FIU own goal.
After This
FAU heads to Norfolk, Virginia, alongside seven other teams, to make up the 2018 C-USA Championship field. Old Dominion will host the three-day tournament, beginning next Wednesday, Oct. 31. Stay tuned for more information, including the Owls' first round opponent and first day gametime, after the conclusion of the entirety of the league's regular season slate on Sunday.
