We continue our series of features highlighting former FAU basketball players who are playing professionally around the globe. This week, we focus on Javier Lacunza (2012-16).
BOCA RATON, Fla. - (July 14, 2017) – Javier Lacunza began his pro career in Spain’s CB Agustinos Eras third division shortly after graduating from FAU in 2016. It was a chance for the native Spaniard to return to his home country.
“Starting my first year as a pro basketball player, I wanted to go to a team where I could feel important and get my confidence back,” said Lacunza. “I signed in the city of Leon, which was a great fit for me, and things worked out from day one.”
The return to familiar territory also has benefits off the court.
“I’ve been enjoying (being back home) a lot. I love the lifestyle that we have here. I’ve missed it. It’s really nice to have a weekend off and go home for a few days.”
While Lacunza’s team did not advance to the postseason, he is looking forward to improving as a player in his second season.
“I felt great during the entire year and I’m looking forward to my second year.”
