BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 2, 2017) - Florida Atlantic University's softball team defeated rival FIU 5-2 on Sunday. The Owls (24-12, 7-2 Conference USA) also took the series with the win.

"Todays game was good for us but overall it was a tough weekend. The two teams as rivals really battled against each other. We played well and were fortunate enough to clinch the series against a really good team. Next weekend will be just as tough as we travel to Marshall."

Game Highlights

Lauren Whitt went 2-for-3 and had two RBI's
Emily Lochten and Delaney Rickey each added a hit
Madisyn Palmer walked three times and scored twice
Tatum Buckley gave up one run and five hits in six innings of relief to pick up the win.

Key Plays
The Owls first two runs didn't come until the bottom of the third inning. Amanda Peck got on base via a walk, stole second, and scored on a double down the left field line. Palmer scored the other run on a sacrifice fly hit by Buckley. Buckley drew a bases loaded RBI in the fifth to score Palmer. Lauren Whitt had a two-run double that drove in Rickey and Lochten to account for the final score.
