CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team ended their yearly set against Miami on Wednesday night and were upended by the Hurricanes at Mark Light Field, 8-2.

The Turning Point

After a home run by Stephen Kerr in the top of the second made it a 1-1 game, Miami (18-19) scored twice in their half to regain the lead, and added five more in the third.

The Finish

The FAU (24-11-1) bats were quieted, with just one more run coming in on the night, a sacrifice fly by Esteban Puerta in the sixth. But UM would be held off the board by the Owls' bullpen as well for the remainder of the game. FAU relievers Blake Sanderson, Mike Ruff, Eric Keating and Nick Swan each allowed no hits or runs, with Keating and Swan's outings perfect.

Notables

Austin Langham had a 2-for-4 night, while Tyler Frank reached twice and scored a run
Sanderson pitched two hitless innings and the only batter that reached against him came on a hit-by-pitch. He threw an efficient 18 pitches in retiring six hitters
Ruff (sixth inning), Keating (seventh) and Swan (eighth) also threw hitless frames, each coming in at under 20 pitches
The finishing relief quartet each posted one strikeout

"We have to get off to a better start, it is difficult to play from behind," said Head Coach John McCormack. "We had chances to get out of the second and third innings, but were not able to. It wasn't a great game for us, but we have to put it behind us, we are off to San Antonio for a conference weekend."

What's Next

The Conference USA series in question is three games at UTSA. The weekend begins with Friday night's opener at Roadrunner Field and is a 7 p.m. Eastern first pitch.
