FAU Softball Sweeps Doubleheader with a Pair of Hard-Fought Wins over Middle Tennessee

Boca Raton, Fla (April 14, 2017)Â - Florida Atlantic University's softball team won both games of its doubleheader against Conference USA opponent Middle Tennessee on Friday. The Owls won the first game 5-2 in nine innings and the second game 7-1. FAU is now 29-15 on the year and 9-5 in conference play.

"Today's games were nothing short of exciting on both sides of the ball. We hit the ball really well, we had 12 hits in the first game and 10 in the second. Tomorrow's game should just be as exciting and all of the fans that were here today should come back out."
Game 1 Highlights
- Mia Olson went 4-for-4 and had two RBI's
- Emily Lochten was 2-for-2 and hit her 16th homerun of the season
- Alex Miller went 2-for-4
- Tatum Buckley pitched 9.0 innings and allowed four runs on 10 hits and had four strikeouts.
In the first inning, Lochten and she hit a homerun to right center field making this her 16th on the season. Buckley scored the second run of the inning on a double to left center by Olson. The Blue Raiders scored in back-to-back inning to tie the game 4-4 headed into the seventh. Neither team could reach home plate until the bottom of the ninth when Samantha Lageyre scored the game-winning run on a Kaitlyn Burke sacrifice fly. There were 25 batters left on base between FAU and Middle Tennessee.Â
Game 2 HighlightsÂ
- Tatum Buckley and Alex Miller went 2-for-4
- Amanda Peck and Samantha Lageyre were 2-for-3
- Lauren Whitt and Mia Olson each added a hit
- Amanda Wilson pitched the entire game allowing two runs on six hits adding two strikeouts. Her record improved to 11-7
The Owls didn't knock in their first run until the bottom of the third inning. Lageyre scored on a Rickey groundout to the third baseman. Sami Williams scored another run for FAU in the next inning while pinch running for Olson on a Lauren Whitt single. As the game headed into the seventh inning it was tied 2-2. FAU held Middle Tennessee scoreless in their at bat and Alex Miller drove in Summer Damiano for the game winning run on a single to left field in the bottom of the inning.
