BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 1, 2017) - Florida Atlantic University's softball team split its two games against FIU in their home series Saturday. The Owls lost the first game 5-1 in and won the second game 4-1. FAU is now 23-12 on the year and 6-2 in Conference USA play.

"Todays games were just as tough as I thought they were going to be. FIU is a really good team, and with the win in the second game we snapped their 17 game winning streak. Tomorrow's game will be another tough one and we need to hit the ball a little bit better to secure the win."

Game 1 Highlights

Emily Lochten scored the only run for the Owls
Delaney Rickey and Lauren Whitt each added a hit
Amanda Wilson gave up seven hits while allowing five runs and only had one strikeout. Wilson's record is now 8-6.

Key Plays
The Owls got off to a rough start and had no answer for the Panthers in their first at bat giving up five runs. FAU's lone run was scored in the bottom of the third inning by Lochten. She crossed the plate on a single to left center by Rickey. For the remainder of the game, there were no runs scored by either team.

Game 2 Highlights

Madisyn Palmer went 1-for-2 and had an RBI
Tatum Buckley had the only other hit for the Owls
Tatum Buckley allowed five hits and one run with two strikeouts. Buckley's record is now 5-3.

Key Plays
In the top of the second inning, FAU scored three runs as Amanda Peck, Samantha Lageyre, and Lauren Whitt on heads-up baserunning on a Palmer single. The Panthers scored their only run of the game in the top of the fourth and the Owls scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. FAU held FIU scoreless in the final inning of the game to close it out, earning the win 4-1.
