FAU Softball Sweeps Day 1 of Strike Out Cancer Tournament

BOCA RATON, Fla. - (Feb. 17, 2017) - Florida Atlantic University's softball team earned themselves with a pair of victories in its two games at the Strike Out Cancer Tournament on Friday. The Owls beat Tulsa 5-1 in their first game and Toledo 8-0 in their second game.

The two teams will be back in action on Saturday in the Strike Out Cancer Tournament, the Owls' second tournament of the year, featuring: Savannah State, St. Johns, Syracuse, Toledo, and Tulsa.

Head Coach Joan Joyce "Mia Olson had an excellent night hitting the ball bringing us in with three RBI's in the first and second game. We had some players break out tonight by with getting good quality hits and getting on base.

Game 1 Highlights

Mia Olson went 3-for-3 including three RBI.
Emily Lochten had a homerun.
Kylee Hanson had 14 strikeouts while picking up her fourth win of the year.
Madisyn Palmer, Tatum Buckley, Alex Miller each added base hits.

In the bottom of the second inning, Olson doubled to left center, bringing in Lauren Whitt. In the third inning, Lochten hit a homerun to left center. Olson hit a single to left field, scoring Alex Miller and Tatum Buckley for two more RBI.

Madisyn Palmer went 3-for-4 while driving in two runs.
Mia Olson went had three RBI.
Emily Lochten had a homerun.
Amanda Wilson shutout the Rockets with her first win of the season.

Key Plays
Palmer reached on base with a double to left field, then stole third and scored on a wild pitch to put the Owls up 1-0 in the first inning. Lochten had a homerun in the third inning to center field. Olson had a double to right center bringing in three more RBI for the Owls in the fourth inning.
