BOCA RATON, Fla. - Posting above a 3.0+ grade point average for the third consecutive semester shows Florida Atlantic University's athletic department's academic focus is no longer a trend but an cultural identity for the more than 450 student-athletes.
"Academic achievement is embedded within the culture of all great athletic programs," said Pat Chun, FAU's vice president and director of athletics. "Our student-athletes continue to achieve in the classroom at school record levels. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes, coaches and the support staff who continue to raise the standard of excellence at Florida Atlantic."
Two-hundred and sixty two Owls posted a semester GPA of 3.0 or greater, for a departmental average of 3.026, which is the highest Fall GPA in the program's history. Thirteen student-athletes were named to the President's List after earning a 4.0. Additionally, 38 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List, earning a 3.0 GPA and being among their college's upper top 10 percent. A total of 18 graduated at the 2016 Fall ceremony.
The 2016 Fall semester saw Dillon DeBoer, a graduate student on the football team, earn a spot on Conference USA All-Academic Football Team. He was one of 11 to garner recognition among more than 1,500 who represented their C-USA universities on the gridiron. Maja Ristic earned a spot on the C-USA All-Academic Team for volleyball. The senior women's soccer duo of Erica Burt and Sydney Drinkwater were honored as members on the C-USA All-Academic Team, and men's soccer goalkeeper Phillip Hitpass was honored as a C-USA Academic Team member as well. It also was announced in November that FAU's Graduation Success Rate of 79% was a historic high, and the four-class average was 12 percent higher than the general FAU student population.
