Cross Country Women Cross Finish Line in Second in Titusville

TITUSVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's cross country squad placed second out of the 10 collegiate teams competing in the 5K Friday night at the 17th annual FLRunners.com Invitational.

Notables:

Sophomore Sophia Clark finished fourth overall in 20:11 to pace the Owls' nine
Also notching a top 10 finish was Johanna Freeman, seventh in a time of 20:36
Mary Tulin was just barely outside of the top 15 by less than two seconds, coming in 16th at 20:56
Similarly, Erica Lersch was only four seconds out of the top 20, with her time of 21:10 placing her 21st

"Anytime you come home with a trophy and finish second in an intercollegiate meet with your top runners not racing it's a good day," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "We are happy with how Sophia, Johanna and Maggie (Tulin) competed, and our other finishers know they can get faster. It was a great experience for our newcomers and we'll continue to improve in the weeks to come."

What's Next:

The FAU women join back up with their male counterparts for the FSU Invitational, scheduled for Oct. 7 in Tallahassee. The 33rd version of the event emanates from Apalachee Regional Park. Stay tuned for more information leading up to the race.
