Volleyball Splits Day at Owls Classic

BOCA RATON, Fla. - (September 16, 2016) - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team split its two matches at the Owls Classic on Friday, defeating Abilene Christian in four sets (25-11, 26-24, 20-25, 25-14) before losing a five set match to Tulane (22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-8).
Game 1 (Abilene Christian) Notables
- Sigourney Kame led the Owls with 12 kills. Maja Ristic had 11 and Abbi Reid added 10 to give FAU three players with double digit kills.
- Genesis Viera had 17 assists and 16 digs for her second double-double of the season.
- Nathalie Rosado posted a game high 17 digs for the Owls.
- FAU outhit the Wildcats .260 to .094.
Key Plays
With the first set tied at six, FAU went on a 13-3 run to seize control of the set. Set number two was tied at 24, when a Ristic kill and a Wildcat attack error gave the Owls a 2-0 lead. After falling behind by three, 18-15 in the third set, FAU pulled to within a point, but ACU closed on a 6-1 run to cut its deficit in half. Several extended serving runs in the fourth set allowed the Owls to win going away.
Match 2 (Tulane) Notables
- Sigourney Kame posted 18 kills to lead the Owls.
- Maja Ristic had 13 kills and 11 digs and Ivone Martinez registered 25 assists and 10 digs to both post double-doubles.
- Nathalie Rosado registered 22 digs, and now sits third in school history with 1,201 for her career.
Key Plays
The Owls used a 7-2 run to gain momentum early in the set, but Tulane rallied to within a point at 23-22, before back-to-back kills by Reid and Kame ended the frame. Another late Green Wave rally cut FAU's lead to 24-23 in the second set, but Kame again closed the door and put the Owls one set away from victory. FAU would get no closer, as Tulane took the next three sets for the comeback win.
