Volleyball Hosts Owls Classic

BOCA RATON, Fla. (September 13, 2016) - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team will wrap up its in-season tournament schedule this weekend when they play host to the Owls Classic. It's the second home tournament of the season for the Owls, who hosted the FAU Invitational to open the 2016 season. Tulane, Abilene Christian, Florida Gulf Coast and UTRGV will make up the field.
The Owls open the tournament with a match against FGCU at 7 p.m. on Thursday night before continuing action on Friday, when they face ACU at 11:30 a.m. and Tulane at 7 p.m. FAU will wrap up action against UTRGV at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
FAU Head Volleyball Coach Fernanda Nelson has a connection with two of the four teams. She was an assistant at FGCU prior to coming to FAU and both played and began her coaching career under current UTRGV Head Coach Todd Lowery.
Last Week: The Owls lost three-hard fought matches at the Holiday Inn East Orlando/UCF Classic last weekend.
History: This weekend will be the first time FAU has played both Abilene Christian and UTRGV. The Owls have split the four previous meetings with Tulane, including a three-game sweep of the Green Wave in the last matchup between the two teams, in 2014. FAU has won six of eight all-time encounters with FGCU. The Owls downed the Eagles in four sets in Fort Myers last season. Maja Ristic had a career-high 26 kills in the win.
