BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University baseball team put runners on base on six occasions while trailing UCF Tuesday night, but was unable to match an early lead by the Knights, falling 3-1.

"We had some opportunities," FAU Head Coach John McCormack said. "We just have to do better. I thought all [UCF's] pitchers threw well."

Junior Austin Langham tallied half of FAU's hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double while Tyler Frank drove in Christian Dicks for the lone run of the evening for the Owls.

David McKay was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven in his six innings of work. Alex House, Devon Carr, Robbie Coursel and Cameron Ragsdale all dealt shutout appearances.

UCF put two on early before Frank threw out a runner attempting to steal third and McKay struck out the next batter to end the threat.

A hit batter, bunt single and a walk loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the second for the Knights. One runs scored as the Owls turned a double play before an RBI single by Luke Hamblin plated what would be the winning run. A solo homer in the top of the third extended the advantage to 3-0.

FAU would put the lead-off runner on in each of the next three innings, including loading the bases in the fourth, but failed to produce runs.

Dicks singled and Langham doubled to lead off the sixth before Frank hit a one-out sacrifice fly to earn his 14th RBI of the year.

UCF placed two runners on base in the top of the seventh before Carr entered the game to strike out the two batters he faced to stifle the rally. Coursel allowed two runners on in the eighth, but fanned three to give FAU's staff a total of 12 strikeouts in the game.

Frank drew a lead-off walk in the ninth and moved into scoring position, but was left stranded as the game ended on a flyout.
