No. 17 Owls Tripped Up 7-6 at FIU

MIAMI, Fla. â€" A two-hour weather delay killed the Florida Atlantic University baseball team's momentum as the Owls suffered a 7-6 loss at FIU in Conference USA action on Friday.
FAU tallied 11 hits with Billy Endris, CJ Chatham, Sean Labsan and Austin Langham accounting for eight. Endris and Chatham each recorded a pair of RBI while Endris scored twice.
The Owls struck swiftly as Endris walked and scored on a double by Chatham, who followed suit to cross the plate on a Christian Dicks RBI single in the first.
Langham led off the second with a single and he and Tyler Frank moved into scoring position on an FIU error. Stephen Kerr then hit an RBI bunt single before an Endris double drove in two more runs. Chatham laced a single up the middle to drive in Endris once more, extending the lead to 6-0.
FAU starting pitcher Marc Stewart's night ended in a no decision as the sophomore was forced to leave a 6-2 lead after just three innings due to the lightning delay.
The Panthers chipped away at the lead, cutting it in half in the fourth on three hits before tying the game with a run in each the fifth and sixth innings.
A pair of singles, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly allowed FIU to plate the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
FAU had runners on in each the eighth and ninth innings, but was unable to produce runs.
Stewart struck out four and allowed two hits in his three frames before Alex House allowed eight hits and four runs over the next three, despite striking out a career-high six batters. Devon Carr was tagged with the loss, giving up one run on just two hits in his pair of innings.
The Owls and Panthers will square off in game two in Miami on Saturday, April 23 at 6:30 p.m. Free radio is available on FAUSports.com.
